If you try to actually use the full speed of cheap stuffs rated speeds they often will fail to reach it. That doesn't really matter for most people but I know that I have overheated a cheap router on my uses before.

I think we actually stepped up for the 30$ base line and got like a 45-50 but that's not much better. What ever we have has worked for us for the past 3? years so I can't complain. It's probs time to look into a real investment though now that we're in a house and not an apartment.

It is also worth noting that the newer wireless standards like wireless AC are waaaay better than the old wireless N stuff and even if you only want to use a single router those will make a huge difference for your wireless stuff like phones and laptops if they support it.

 

Mesh network for the win, if you have a spare $400 lying around that you don't need for anything else.

 

But muh bandwidth
