For sure I agree with what you said as far as the laptop goes, and sure doubling RAM will "feel" good, but I think it's just throwing away $50 to put it into RAM for his situation (strictly for MTurk purposes).

He wont make a good ROI on that $50. He'll get a handful of extra browser tabs out of it, that still don't work b/c his CPU is ass, and the scripts trying to do all the heavy lifting for him in the background will be even less likely to parse & catch work and it will be entirely invisible to the user.

Save the $50 until it's $400 and buy a cheap work desktop setup. He's basically 12% to goal already. If you're trying to min-max on MTurk (which people should IMO, it's literal pennies ) I just think the $50 to a stick of RAM is bad. An hour of self reflective workflow adjustments on his POS as-is probably would be better though arguably a million times more difficult lol.

I think a laptop isn't a suitable work environment for serious MTurk work. If someone had a minivan and was trying to haul lumber he could pay someone money to cut a hole in his roof and carry 2x4's vertically and it would "work" but he'd still be a dumbass for not waiting and purchasing an actual truck
