I mentioned this to someone else the other day, but maybe look into snus - much safer than smoking (or using dip, for that matter). It's a spit-free smokeless tobacco that's actually very discreet (the portions are smaller, and they go in the upper lip, so you don't get that "dip bulge"). It's pasteurized (unlike dip, which is fermented) which means WAY lower TSNA levels (essentially: carcinogens) than cigarettes or dip.

I wouldn't recommend the American stuff at all, though - it's crap and the nicotine levels don't seem to be well-regulated. There's some sticker shock if you order it online due to the cost of shipping tobacco/nicotine products into the country, but it balances out if you buy in bulk.

If the tobacco taste is just unbearable for you (which there are tons of flavors - many of which aren't "tobacco-y" at all) there are tobacco free options like ZYN or "all white" which have next to no (if any) tobacco taste in a variety of flavors, too.

I tried those once many years ago, did not know they had tobacco free ones or know that they're just that much safer in general. I may try that when I'm ready to take that final step. I'm really not too big on just letting stuff chill in my mouth it kinda annoys me but it could be worth it for a few weeks to put up with.
