    You may be joking, but honestly maybe. But would have to be a pretty independent study, or foreign or something. IDK how IRB stuff works, but there's no way if the study was commissioned by something with ethics oversight - that they'd allow for something that promises to pay people for their time - but nope

    Can you just bake the normal timer and pause the hourly so that the hourly is right, but the 'time' time goes up?

    Uhh, there was a guy at an academic conference on twitter a few weeks/months ago giving a talk about this exact kind of scenario where they apparently told workers their data was lost and they wouldn't be paid as the experiment.

    Frankly if places like Stanford/CMU/UPenn etc haven't proven by now ethics means absolutely fuck all in academics when it comes to MTurk. The whole thing is a sandbox for them to poop in lol.

    I think he just goes off of the timer you spent on the hit page before submitting. I don't know exactly how that works since I'm not a requester but I think that timer resets when you refresh the page or anything and it's a separate timer from the hit timer itself
