04/04 - Twinsies Tuesday!

My mother was not a cook at all...processed crap mostly...my father either so I never really learned. I tried to teach myself along the way but never learned as much as I would like. I actually have been looking for cooking classes in my area but haven't been able to find any

I also know part of my problem has been the lack of organization in my kitchen that frustrates me and I give up...that's why organization is my first project.

lol I never use a list. I just buy a variety of fresh meat, veggies, and fruit and then I always have something to cook. I buy what's on sale and then make a menu choice based on what I have. Saves a ton of money.

 

I actually did that with my not so healthy meals. I actually have a spreadsheet that tracks prices and prints off a shopping list for me based on the recipes I am interested in. I am going to modify it for the healthy ones as I find ones I like

I think this depends greatly on how you cook. I almost never follow a recipe. I know what works together and what doesn't, I have way more spices on hand than is reasonable, and I know how to cook very well lol. I only have a list when there is something very specific that I want to make which isn't that often.

 

Yea I can't decide if it's sexism or just that, on average, I'm probably nicer to women.

Right. That makes sense. But we're trying to help a beginner who is trying to learn. I think once they have a better grasp on what works with what, they'll be able to do what you do. Going in blind trying to put together a recipe yourself isn't something a brand new cook is going to be able to do.

 

Do you have a Sprouts store near you? I know a lot of people that don't go in there because they think it'll be overpriced like Whole foods and they are on some things but their fresh meat is half the price of Walmart and they cut it all in store and don't freeze it. I just put four racks of baby back ribs in my freezer because they had them on sale for 1.49/lb.

That reminds me of being a teen and when I started cooking for my brother and his friends...I would just make up something with all the stuff I could find in the kitchen.

 

I agree. I avoided buying a foodsaver for years because i didn't think we'd use it, but now that we have one I use it for everything lol.
