my bill is regularly in the 50s, and I barely use any water.

    It really fucking sucks.

It's not city water, it's a public well from a private company and they've been jacking the price every few months. There's a township meeting on it coming up though, was thinking of going.

Does that mean you pay for your garbage separately? Most cities combine them.

yes they're totally different companies - neither of which is the city itself. However for garbage, companies compete over a contract to do the whole city at once - which is a good thing for consumers, you know, capitalism.

with water though, it's a single company that owns the well and water towers, so we get hosed.

Wow! That's terrible! I would definitely go if I were you, that's highway robbery! We do pay for garbage separate but use a company that comes and picks it up for 18 bucks. Our bill is usually 15-18 dollars for water a month.

Wow. I wish ours would check/alert. We had a rental that had a leak in the wall that the tenant didn't notice for like a month. Bill went up like $500 for one month (bad leak). They did give us one month's credit as a "one time" favor. But it spanned more than one billing cycle, so we had to pay the larger bill for the next cycle, too.

Would have been nice if they could have alerted us to the leak. The meters are read remotely, so I'm pretty positive they can be alerted. All they will tell us if we call about a large water bill is "We can see a flag that there was one day where water ran for 24 hours or more." So effing call when that happens, k? (Especially since California is so friggin' concerned about its water supply...help us conserve! Leaks happen in hidden areas!)

Jealous. I pay water/sewer/garbage on one bill. Sewer alone is about $53. Water usage is above that (base fee + meter fee + usage). Alltogether my bill is about 110-130 depending on how much I'm watering. Garbage just went up to above $35/month.

holy crap. this makes me feel way better about mine.

My garbage is like 20 bucks every 3 months or something, but I don't have garbage - only recycling. I just compost all my garbage, and everything I can't - goes to the dumpster at work.

You guys should see how much they charge me for water/sewer for my duplex. Because it's a "multiple" despite it being only 1 bedroom units, they charge way more for the "multiple" issue. Like, there are only 2 toilets! Houses that have 3-4 toilets and 5 bedrooms pay less than my wittle duplex.

Garbage is mandatory here. Can't opt out. They will literally put a lien on your home if you try. We had too many people "claim" they were disposing on their own and guess what they weren't doing?

so now, mandatory in my city.

I live in the desert and my water isn't that much. Even in the summer when I water a lot it's never over $80. I have irrigation lines for everything except the garden though. Also, I don't have to pay for a sewer, that's like part of the water bill, right? They take the sewage and recycle the water, then turn the waste into fertilizer and sell it. Shouldn't have to pay for something they are gonna profit off of.
