    Do you have insurance? It is usually best to apply for every type of assistance out there to help pay for your bill. There is income assistance, religious assistance, and you continue to tell them that you don't have the money to pay for that and you would like to get a reduction.
    I did not have insurance and ended up with a $17k bill from the ER. Nearly every Dr. office and hospital will give you a 40% discount on your bill if you agree to pay it. After calling around constantly I reduced the $17k bill down to $2.5k after tell them what I could pay and setup a payment system. ALWAYS ask for discount options. There are a boat load. You can get them even if you have already started paying on your bills.

    Yes I do, and its not the amount of the bill, its that they keep coming in various amounts because their billing system is so convoluted. I haven't had a single bill over $150 and have been able to pay them all but they are coming for at least the next 6 months by my calculations.... and don't get me started on the lack of assistance that exists in this state. Even with me being on SSDI, the fact that we have a combined income of over 18k/year keeps us from even getting food stamps... at least they're willing to take 20% of my monthly benefit to pay for my medicare...
