Kids born in the early to mid-80's were always referred to as Gen Y when we were growing up. At some point over the past 5 to 10 years they started lumping us in with millennials. I think they do that because these "generations" have always been roughly 20 years. However, I think the prevalence of the internet and how old you were when you got it is a major factor. I was 2 years into high school when we got it, and my sister was still in junior high...even though we are only a couple of years apart, it heavily changed our high school experience and the type of adults we became.

Personally, I have a lot more in common with pissed off Gen X than Socially conscious millennials lol

 

It wasn't that many. Typical bubbles. I guess it's longer if you actually spent the recommended 10 minutes writing, but I didn't so.....

I think I was around 8-10 when we got the "internet" I use quotes because it was all dial up to local BBS's back then. Prodigy wasn't big and AOL wasn't around really.

 

I like that perspective. I was 18 when i got my first computer(in 2008), and i've always felt a bit detached from 'other millennials'

 

I got the internet in 2006 when I was 9 from SBC (before it got merged into AT&T)

 

I have no idea what we had at the time but I remember my dad playing doom online and the next thing I knew we were getting 9 million AOL free trial CDs a second like everyone else
