You know, I'm starting to think that Mr. Newman may have been either radically incompetent in his Mturk efforts, or his reporting was so intentionally misleading that it would be the sort of journalistic malfeasance that would ordinarily preclude employment as a high school sports reporter for the local Pennysaver, to say nothing of a position at the nation's paper of record.

On reflection, I suppose that's a false dichotomy. Both could be true.
