Not to mention the vastly different speeds at which some people work on mturk make paying a flat $xyz/hr to do the work outright unfeasible. Unless your tasks are set to .00 and you pay out in a bonus based on how long they bake each hit.

 

How do you guys complain to a requester when they reject you for time? I don't think "hi im sry i read quickly" sounds very positive

I tried once and the requester came back with a Grinchy tone basically telling me that me reading quicker then their average means I wasn't giving it enough attention and that they weren't going to do anything about it.

Here's what I usually write (which is based on taters' template). I vary it to fit the requester/HIT to show that they are full of shit and I was paying attention despite being "too fast".

Dear [requester name]

I have received a message that you have rejected my hit named [hit name here] for not meeting time requirements. I would like to discuss overturning this rejection with you. Mturk workers will almost always complete hits in a faster time-frame than standard estimates because our job is to take surveys day in and day out. I pride myself on providing the best data I can, as quickly as possible. If I did not miss any attention checks in the survey, and I did not provide inconsistent answers, please review this link - https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSMechTurk/latest/RequesterUI/ReversingRejectedAssignment.html It has the step by step instructions on how to reverse the rejection.

Please keep in mind that rejections hurt our ratings and our ability to complete work on Mturk. When workers are rejected, we post reviews to requester review sites. Since this is an unfair rejection, you may likely get a bad requester rating. This means that in the future, the workers that pride themselves on their approval ratings will not do your hits. This could cause you to get bad data.
