Everythign that can be automated will be. And we should embrace that fact. The problem is that being without work will leave us to die under the current system - hence why we're scared about min. wage jobs getting automated that way.

If there were no self checkouts at the grocery store I go to, I'd be waiting in line for more than 45 minutes because no matter what time of the day it is, there are 3 cashiers at the most.

 

Coming from 14 years of retail experience even if self checks didn't exist they would not employ more cashiers anyway they would just call more store personnel up when it gets busier.

 

Stuff like that sucks, I wouldn't want to self checkout 100 bucks of groceries.

 

Fuck anywhere that doesn't have self-checkouts IMO.

I don't want to interact with someone to buy 2 things.

I guess it just comes down to if you want me to do something that you pay people to do offer me like a 10% discount for it, I didn't go to the store to do some work, especially if it's like a grocery store where people buy high volume.

I don't mind doing it. An employee will come over and start bagging for me and I'll have to shout, "I'll do it myself!" Because I hate the way they bag stuff there. I've worked in a grocery store before. It's tough thankless low paying work.

 

Then we need a new system. Maybe one not based on money. Maybe based on helping each other and friendship?

 

The self checkout at the Walmart by campus moves fast as hell because no one looks good on those cams and the college girls can’t even

 

I worked in one for 3 years in high school.

 

I get that you're trying to ride your high horse under the guise of you care about people. But you could always get your shit delivered to you to support their jobs and then not have to be the ash hole who coughs on shit in public.

I've never had groceries delivered I wonder how that works. But really I try hard not to cough on people, I wasn't trying to imply that I think it's funny to do that.

 

Self checkout in college towns vs the general population should be it's own field of research.
