    I'm going to tell you what I would have done as my daughter had a similar issue in the past.....she had broken up with her boyfriend who was abusive yet all her stuff was in his house, she had a key...I told her, when he goes to work, we'll go get your stuff, and she got all weird about it and I was like you have a damn key, they are your items, we aren't taking his stuff.

    When someone acts in bad faith in my view there is nothing wrong with getting your things.
