Also.....I didn't even sleep last night.

 

Slow week for anyone else? Haven't turked in some months.

 

Can relate, have parents that either lack enough self awareness to realize they are making people uncomfortable or they simply don't care (that's my estimation). Love 'em, am grateful for 'em, but they drive me nuts. I've been homeless, on the streets, you name it, but any time I've had to live back at home has been the times where I notably have been the most miserable, no joke. At least when I was homeless I had the freedom to do whatever I wanted without having to brave a mental boss fight.

Obsessively doing nice things as a buffer to boundary-pushing and unapologetic behavior is insanely bewildering to me. Almost in how effective it is--the person who gets mad at the person who's doing lots of (unrequested) nice favors usually looks crazy. But I digress

See the story you are explaining is why I find it a bit odd with my son, my daughter spends time in her room a lot but she's also out in the living room frequently, actually my son is too...I get her, her room is standard sized so if she's in there it's the bed or the floor. My son has basically an entire floor of the house to himself, 1 side is his room the other is the game room I setup that I honestly don't use all that often. There's a couch on his side with his bed, there's 2 couches and a recliner on the other, with the bar and the stools. I know when I was his age if I had access to watch 3 tvs at once and the amount of game systems that are down there I'd have been doing shit constantly, but everyone is different.

 

See that sounds a lot like me, how would you have reacted to have basically the entire finished basement to yourself when 1 side is your room, with a bathroom, big enough for a bed, couch, very large. The other side is a game room with multiple tvs and systems even arcades...I bet you'd have used all that shit lol.

I actually enjoyed being homeless. I know that'll make me sound crazy. There is something freeing about being homeless. I think it may have something to do with the fact that I was single, and I could literally do whatever I wanted, because fuck it I already don't have anything already. My wife is terrified of it, but sometimes I joke with her that it would have been easier to be homeless than to have to deal with my mother like we did.

Maybe it's more simple that you can imagine. Maybe it's about porn.

Nah it's not that serious, I was just trying to figure out how prevalent it is, I don't really think it's an issue or anything I just was basically trying to gauge if it was typical or if it was a sign of something else going on.

 

So my husband is processing invoices today - the way this works since his whole unit works remotly is someone scans all the invoices in the mail room into the computer system (well it worked this way when they were in the office to). He just got this invoice

Nah, maybe you sound crazy to someone with no experience of it, but it's a very incredible and artistic mental and physical place to be in this world. Some my the greatest wisdom, nostalgic memories, life-changing experiences, etcetera happened when I was either on and off the streets or completely homeless.

You meet many unique people, build many strong and unique friendships, and become part of almost a completely different civilization and economy living underneath the rest of the world. I'm an artist and that period of my life is where I draw so much inspiration from.

A lot comes with it though, I guess that risk adds to it, but that's why I wouldn't recommend it outright. Seen a lot of violence and lost a lot of friends to circumstances. I like some of those pseudo-homeless vlogs that people do on Youtube, where they do stealth camping or things like that in a calculated way. But nothing compares to really working the streets.

It's weird, because once you leave and get your shit together, there's always that part of you pining to go back. I'm not going to lie, once in a while me and some old friends will get a little feral and spend a weekend making fires in the woods or spending time in our old filthy hangouts and things like that, albeit a little less reckless (usually), and part of my spirit will always live in that world.
