We sleep with a fan going to stop the sound of the *assumed* dog breeder next door so that might not be too big of an issue then. I have read that you might need to break the 'love' up from time to time when he starts getting to feisty. I've heard of them pulling feathers and even making a hen's butt bald from too much 'love'.

My main reason for wanting one is that I know they tend to be a good safety measure for the flock. Read a lot of stories of 'flock saved by valiant rooster'. Though hopefully I'll never need that. Maybe when this flock passes or I get the urge for more chickens I might pick up a rooster. Then it's free baby chickens!

I let my girls out 7-8 am every morning and then shut them in at night right as the sun starts to set. So I don't have tooooo many fears about the free range issues. They are in a .25 acre area that's fenced in on all sides and has the coop in the middle and a huuuuuuge tree about that to stop fly strikes(hopefully). I use them as my scrap eaters for everything safe.

I just talked myself out of wanting/needing a rooster for a while honestly lol. Maybe when I lose a girl or two and want for new chicks.
