12/13 - Snacking Sunday!

Thankfully we have no roos(the coop/run is less then 50 feet from the bed room window) so we avoid that. If we CATCH him doing it, he's duck dinner that night. If that comes to pass, should we get another duck to keep The Lady company? We used to find her eggs in the coop floor beside the nesting boxes and then she just stopped laying the week it froze really hard. So it might just be the cold/winter

 

Yeah, soon as it warms up she'll start again. Pekins weren't the best egg layers, not for me anyway.
She would be much better with a friend. They are social. If she's in good with the chickens, then she'd be fine.

 

I thought Pekin was a way of cooking duck, not a type of duck

 

I don't see her being super 'in' with the hens but she certainly isn't bullied or pushed away. They all share the same coop at night and seem to do just fine together. She's a coward though! She's scared of EVERYTHING so I worry if we take away The Lord that she'll be extra lost without him.

This is how my ducks act. With The Lord standing tall and protecting The Lady. It's super cute. I feel so bad that they seem to hate us for some reason.

 

Then I'd definitely get another. May want to introduce a new female now.
Maybe he'll be so thrilled he'll get his groove right.

None of 'my' ducks were very friendly. They would follow my chickens who were very friendly, so that's how I moved them along.
My BEST duck who would come to me happily was a Mallard that made his home with us.

Yeah the ducks kinda follow the chickens for snacks and food. If the chickens think it's safe, the ducks are at least chill. Like they will eat out of my hand if I've sat still long enough. Don't dare try and pet them though. Chickens will accept lap pets and affection. The ducks are 100% sure we are killing them right that moment.

 

Kinda low-key liked it, but don't tell anyone.

 

This should be in that same isle then!
