    Eh, mTurk is what you make of it on both sides of the coin. I think you have a very idealized view of the "real world" workplace here.. Because IME more shady shit happens in my normal work stuff than mTurk.

    Sure it sucks that people game the system, but it sucks more for the requester than you or I. Workers get suspended on mTurk all the time for poor work quality, most of them don't go about confirming that but all you really need to do is peruse TO a bit to see the carnage.

    By all accounts mTurk is incredibly good at a lot of different tasks.. Deep thought data collection is just difficult to do well with a completely anonymized workforce in a way that is "fair" to both sides right off the bat. Most of the requesters who figure it out (GWF, str###### immediately jump to mind) love the platform & their work force.

    Honestly I'd bet dollars to donuts any company who hired 500 random people to do a similar task in the real world would get the same shit.

    F*** the guy who took over the str account from frb. I messed up one HIT because I valued it using a "similar" item about 50 bucks more than the original (original was some sort of PC tower that was like 400 bucks) and the guy took my qual and gave me a verbal lashing.

    I replied with a lengthy and very pissed off email he never replied to.

    I agree with that, and I'm just as aggravated by it in real life too. I have played team sports my whole life, and for that reason I have always kind of viewed co-workers as teammates. A good teammate knows that every action they do that puts him or herself over the team, hurts the team as a whole. Obviously, the larger the "team", the less realistic this analogy becomes. However, this is also why I can get pissy here from time to time. I'm never purposely trying to be a dick, but I don't like the idea that a team that I feel a part of is being represented in a bad way.

    However, this entire mindset falls under the branch of idealism more than anything, and it's also why I started my own business the second I finished university...I know damn well you can't trust another person with your own reputation.

    On the subject of sugary items, I treated myself with dessert yesterday/today (I got a double fudge brownie which holy crap is 520 calories??? I split it across two days because that is far too much for one day even for treat yo self) and wow. Yes. I approve.

    Good for you for standing up for yourself. You don't have to choose to be a doormat. You can also be unlucky as some have recently been and be blocked for no reason.
