I don't know about all of that, but I know we're all just trying to survive and exist in a world that's in turmoil. None of us know each other's true struggles so I'd rather we all just be uplifting

 

Well I think you're a warrior yourself! My step mother died from breast cancer almost two years ago. Prayers for you and your continued health! I am 38 now and was diagnosed just before my 37th birthday with Ovarian Cancer. I've had chronic pain for years thanks to Fibro, back issues, etc so there was nothing on my radar that would have told me I was as sick as I was but one morning I just had the worst stabbing pain in my abdomen. After an emergency room visit that turned into a life flight I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer and I had an immediate surgery to remove a volleyball/Basketball sized tumor enveloping and radiating off my left ovary which was also removed. I am lucky beyond belief. For so many women it is too late.

PSA to the women out there.. if you are feeling back pain or pressure, or get bloated and full easily from eating, cramping, pain during sex, etc.. demand to have an ultrasound.. don't take the doctor's word for it that you are just having a normal menstrual issue or whatnot. Advocate for yourself. Ovarian cancer is deadly and for most women it's found when it's already too late. I'm one of the very lucky few. I will be doing monthly drs appointments for the next 10 years of my life to keep things under control and monitored. Don't put it off!

Also in case anyone has a messed up sense of humor like we do.. we named my tumor Wilson. Castaway for the win And no we're not insane.. but humor is proven to heal

Thank you! Some days I don't feel very strong, but I do the best with the life I was given. It certainly is a struggle some days.

I am so sorry to hear of all you've been through. Nobody deserves any of that. I am so happy you caught it in time and got proper treatment for it!

My story is somewhat similar. I am also 38 and was diagnosed with breast cancer at 35. I had a breast lump that I stupidly ignored for years. I have had cysts in the past and thought it was just a cyst since it felt just like one. But it wasn't getting any better and was about the size of a golf-ball by the time I got a mammogram and ultrasound. I just didn't think it could happen to me since I was young. Thankfully, even after all that time, it did not spread. But I had to undergo very intensive chemo for 6 months, surgery, and radiation. Now I'm on hormone therapy and that has been a real struggle for me with all the side effects (it honestly makes me feel 90+ years old). But I am doing the best I can.

My PSA for women (and men, since breast cancer can occur in them, too)) is to always check your boobs! Never ignore a lump like I did. It's just not worth it!

You have such a positive attitude about everything and I really admire that. : ) I am trying to stay positive through the hormone treatment I have to go through, but some days it's really hard. Humor does help a lot, though! Humor is very much healing.

Well it's very nice to meet you mysterykitty and I know it must be terribly difficult to go through your struggle, but we are strong women and we will prevail. You are so right about men getting breast cancer as well. I know a man who died from it a couple of years ago and now his wife works full time driving around the country advocating for and raising awareness for men and women alike to get checked and be mindful of their bodies. I am a stubborn lady so I will outlive everyone ;-) but honestly every day I wake up I know it will be a day of Blessings It can be difficult to stay positive and no human can be expected to smile full time.. some days I ugly cry and some days I say why me.. but in the end.. I know I've been given a gift and I try to focus on that! <3

Hugs to you both @mysterykitty and @Curtis and Michelle Lich - and also kudos for the reminder for us ALL (men and women) to do preventative check-ups. Ladies - get your paps, get your mammograms' and if you think a mole looks funky insist on a dermatologist recommendation. Keep advocating for yourself. I've had lumpectomy's, so many ultrasounds I can't even count because of uterine and fibroid tumors and cysts, and had my thyroid removed because of a rare cell mutation.

I've been through rounds of hormone therapy (most recent one last year) - for the uterine and cystic issues and I can tell you, it is not a picnic. There are plenty of days where it is hard to stay positive and all you want to do is curl up in a ball and stay in bed. I made a checklist in the past that said "Brush my teeth" and put it on my nightstand for when I was in the weeds and could just get up, check that off and feel like I accomplished something.

Remember folks if you feel a lump, or are feeling a little bit off - you are NOT alone. Sometimes it's scary to go in to get it checked out, but as you guys have both said... these things can be super duper treatable once you know what you are dealing with. Anyone reading this that is unsure whether they should go have something checked out - don't forget, you are brave and awesome and have people rooting for you and in your corner.

If anyone ever need's to vent, have an understanding shoulder, needs someone online while you go for an ultrasound, or just a person to send some funny distracting memes back and forth while you are in a waiting room feel free to DM me.
