completely conflicted. I want to both like and laugh at your post and can't determine which. If that CDN pays a bonus, I will have broke 100 today but as someone mentioned earlier (was it Josh?) prolific is the place to be atm. I only got to work on one of my 2 favorite batch reqs because they both posted at the same time and I prefer a definite dollar amount for a definite amount of time Plus, I ended up moving in with my grandmother that raised me because I promised her over twenty years ago that I would never let her go into a home. Life is way hard for me at the moment but thankful that I'm making it work. My only hope is that I pass before I encounter alzheimer's or dementia myself... I hope that all of y'all have a great year of freelancing

less than my student loans but my roommate had a nearly fatal stroke in early September and can no longer live in the house. His family is selling it. I would not be here except my shitty redneck uncle got a DUI just before Thanksgiving so I had leverage that grandma and the rest of the family was unaware of and honestly, he might be 20 years older but I'm far more responsible. Plus, I'm not feeding her processed frozen food disguised as nutrition.

 

if she is low income, find out if you can get paid by the state you live in for taking care of her. um...you might find it difficult to turk because old people can have outbursts and stuff. like chattering nonsense for 16 hours straight and repeatedly getting out ladders and climbing up them and stuff. um...and then there are uncooperative medical people, and relatives you've never even met before who suddenly want to befriend your elderly relative. keep your sense of humor, and realize you may need to run off and join the circus at some point, and that your grandma is really fortunate to have you.

 

thanks so much but no, they might not have gone to college but they both retired army and my grandfather again in civil service. grandpa died the first May of covid from my stupid redneck uncle putting him back to bed hours after he fell in the bathroom. I spend nearly a month telling nurses over the phone what to put on the tv for him since he was in a coma. We could not visit him, nor have a real funeral, especially a veteran's funeral. 2 and a half years, it still hurts.
not even my third favorite REM song (I really identify with them) but this is what has kept me from falling out over the last month that I've been trying this.

I feel this. I moved in with my parents: mom/cancer and dad/dementia. We are blessed to be able to care for them, but it is not for the feint at heart. You've got this.

The promise you made decades ago says everything about the kind of person you were back then and following through on it shows who you are today. That's heroic and big-hearted. I've made similar choices and it's painful - very painful - at times. I wonder where much my own life has gone away to, what I have missed out on - but no matter how hard it is, I couldn't imagine making any other choice. It's the right choice. And it sounds like the universe is trying to do what it can to make all the pieces fall into place for you. I hope so! You clearly deserve it.
