Ping is the time it takes the server to respond to a request from you. Your computer sends a message to mturk and then mturk sends a message in response. The ping is the round trip time it took to get a response back.

Yeah that is pretty good. Assuming your ISP doesn't shit the bed randomly and the internet flickers... It won't be your internet being the issue.

Either that or maxing your upload on your connection won't allow you to send commands out but I doubt many people do that unless they run servers like I do and if you run servers you most likely know how to make sure that doesn't cause any issues.

Yeah actually, I am thinking now that it is download speed. I remember someone talking on here(Randomacts I think) saying how anything under 5.5 Mpbs is slow, pretty sure we have less than that, like in the 2-3 range(plus split between 2 computers, possibly 2 mobile devices, does that matter?)

Anyways, maybe ping/download speed isn't the issue and it's just some kind of TM settings/luck...

Last question, is there someway people can avoid the 'exceeded page request' error on mturk? If the page request error wasn't a problem, then someone could always get a jump on me even with the same ping/download speed. They could just set their refresh rate to 1-3 seconds and get alerted more quickly than me

(like does overwatch somehow allow for faster alerting or more page refreshes on mturk?)

edit: Nvm, checked my d/l speed on a website. Says it is 21.18 -- is that slow or fast?

No, there is no way to avoid it as its present on both sites. You can alleviate the stress of PRE by splitting up your page requests between both sites since they have separate request limit pools.

21.18mbps download? What is your upload (that actually matters a bit with mturk but you don't need that much.. you just need enough to not run out of bandwidth or commands being sent to mturk ect)

But for download 21.18mbps is most likely plenty for mturk as long as you don't have a bunch of devices on your network trying to do something at the same time or something.

Today has been a pretty nerdy day... this morning we had a bunch of weeb talk about the next anime season ect.

I think they stay green until you refresh?

    Yeah that should be enough.

Edit: for context my download is ~240mbps and my upload is 12mbps but both my brother and I are heavy internet users that easily use >1TB/mo so we have to pay an extra $50/mo to comcast a month for unlimited.. :rain:

I recently made an old router into an access point (I have ethernet drops in both my brother and my room) to remove the dead zone in my apartment.

That looming feeling. I have the same with a crappy repeater I've got in my parent's house.

    Dead zones are no fun.

I have somewhere north of 50 devices going and I normally get a "blip" as I call it, where the router just says "screw you" for 4-5min, though RARELY it requires an actual reset. I do a bunch of different passive and non-passive apps that supplement my MTurk, especially these two months I wasn't able to turk.

Repeaters are gross and should never be used if you can avoid it. They basically half the bandwidth of your network.

If you have that many devices it might be a good idea to get a proper setup with a wired router + a proper access point (or points if your home is big enough)

You can get some Ubiquiti APs for fairly cheap or I know people like Ruckus as well.

Edit: Also if you can move any of your devices to running over wired.. it would be a good idea as wired is always going to be better.

My apartment isn't big enough to need them. Plus have an older router I can use if needed as an AP. My Archer C7 can handle more devices than I have but I also live in an area that is amazingly dense in the spectrum for how few people live here. The blips are from also the s***** way that comcast did the wiring initially. Like seriously the feed is hanging off the building outside and just comes directly in without a wall socket or anything. Not great wiring and obviously little to no shielding as well... Playing around with power settings and stuff initially was SO much fun.../s

But I am not going to pay north of $300 to have them come out to rewire and either not show up or try to say nothing is wrong but charge me anyway, or say its my router or modem... typical laziness that exists in this area.

I live in one of the states that can't do A9 hits, so seeing those always depress me a little.

Also aside from mine and my wife's laptop, the devices are phones/tablets so can't go hardwired. Main comp and gaming consoles are hardwired.

I have the same router :D. But anyways if the issue is comcast's fault they won't charge for the service visit. Contact comcast through https://www.reddit.com/r/Comcast_Xfinity/ or tweeting https://twitter.com/comcastcares . Every other way of contacting them is not worth the time. You could do what I did when I was having issues and make sure that they will agree to waive the free even if it is your equipment that is at fault. (basically if it was the modem being bad they would just leave and you just need to get a new one)

They actually did a new run of coax and redid the box outside after they came out to service my apartment last time without charging me.
