I think Sid will be more appreciated once he's gone. He turns 30 this summer, and I think you're right, he is not going to have as long a career as many other Hall of Famers...but for a little perspective:

Yzerman's legacy is mostly as one of the best captains in history, and the leader of the most envied franchise of the 90's/2000's. By age 30, he had exactly zero Cups and was constantly being rumored on the trade market as the Wings thought they couldn't get over the hump with him as captain.

Sakic's legacy is largely built around being the classiest player in hockey, and showing up for big games in the playoffs and internationally. By age 30, he had 1 cup, and zero Olympic golds

Crosby now has 3 Cups, 2 Olympics gold, 1 World Cup gold. Part of this shows how great Stevey and Joe were, even past their primes, but man, it's crazy to think about how impressive this is starting to get.
