06/13 - Tantalizing Tuesday!

We used to have to really inspect the produce we got at Aldi's becuase sometimes it wasn't fresh. Thankfully that's not a problem anymore but we get all of our packaged foods there and we never have a problem with that. The Aldi's by my moms house is really awful so it could very well just be yours in that area. They are def a hit or miss as far as cleanliness and availability. I don't step foot in a Walmart anymore but that's more of a moral choice because I think they are a terrible company.

For those of you that don't have a good store for produce check if your area has a local produce co-op. We did that for awhile before Sprouts opened. We got a cheap membership plan on groupon and every week we'd get a big paper bag filled with fruits and vegetables from local farms. Was a fun way to try new stuff and we could always buy more bags if we wanted/needed them.

Me too lol. I used to dread the two hour schlep through Wal-mart but now I love starting and Aldi's, hitting up sprouts, and then finishing up at a local place called Reasor's. Plus it takes me about an hour twenty each week so it's faster even though I'm hitting up three stores. Sometimes four in the summer if I head to the farmer's market.

 

I lost 20 pounds this month with just a few simple changes as by no longer putting sugar in my coffee and cutting out sodas all together.Also cut way down on processed cans and frozen goods which are loaded with salt. My blood pressure went from 148 to now 112.
The amazing thing about my weight loss was my exercising was minimal. Did a daily walk that was it. The doctor told me it was all the junk I was eating. It is hard though to know which is good for you, as just about everything either has lots of sugar or salt in it to make it taste good.

This. I lived my entire life overweight until last year and I always thought that I was healthy since I could perform better physically than pretty much everyone around me. But being heavy for so long definitely did a number on my knees and ankles and I wish I had gotten fit sooner. I just feel so much BETTER too.

I miss having a neighborhood walmart near me! They are so happy on the inside. Have the aldis near you been rennovated yet? They recently did that to all the ones near me and they look so much happier now!

 

Nope, no renovations yet! Doesn't look like it's been changed at all since whenever it was built. It's old, dark, and ugly on the inside lol.

 

That makes me sad. Hopefully they will re-do yours soon, from what I was told they are rennovating all the aldis to look like those now.

They just built what would be the equivalent of a super Aldi in the next town over and it's glorious lol. It's about three times the size of a normal one and they regularly stock a lot of the things we only get seasonally in our local store. I don't go most of the time because I have a smaller one so close by but I hope they start building more of them. They are big full size grocery stores in Europe.

I just had success from Amazon Fresh, so now I have to add that to my list of options. Produce and meat were super overpriced so I didn't even bother, but the pantry and refrigerated items were comparable to normal stores. I'm with you. Before I go shopping, I check coupons on the local grocery store app, Ibotta coupons, and consider the price-match receipt thing that Walmart offers which has amassed me like $100 in a year from just scanning receipt barcodes. I have individual lists for each store (organized by the layout of the store even, heck yes organization) because yeah, I hate spending money and like eating food to stay alive.
