Thanks for this breakdown, bossman. I had the video saved in my "Watch someday" list, but now moved it to "Watch soon" based on the cliffnotes. Which doesn't sound like a big difference, but I live by my lists and that's a top priority list.

 

There's so much to be said for staying calm when other people escalate. I've had people address me with racial slurs, insults etc on Twitter only to have a perfectly normal and respectful conversation with them once I established I was actually interested in real dialogue. When you don't mirror their behavior it understates how ridiculous they're being without you even having to point it out.

Most people can be reasoned with once you get them off the defensive and that can't happen until they feel comfortable and like you're genuinely empathizing. Even if their fears are unfounded and their facts are skewed, their feelings are valid.

This is great advice, @ChrisTurk . Hoping for a friendlier internet in the future as we all begin to understand what that takes

Had a pleasant discussion with a busted script user earlier this week. <Name Omitted> submitted 3,657 assignments within 57 seconds. I blocked her, and when she asked why, I told her she was either Turkin' from the Xavier Institute or she was scripting. This kind of scripting ruins our product, kills load speeds for you all, and will make us close up shop.
