    Ok, I'll back away from this discussion after this since we're going pretty far off the making money wagon here, but I'm going to point out it's all relative, because you might book a photographer for your wedding for 5 hours for $2500, but it takes them like 20+ hours to go through and edit all those photos up later, they're not just going to hand you the bare shots and say "Go to town chuckles!" Add in the editing and post production work you're talking $100/hr which is right in line with what you'd pay a skilled 1099 contractor for work.

    The actual time they're shooting photos is about 25% of the time they spend doing stuff.

    I'm going to disagree with you here. People doing freelance work usually have to charge higher, especially if that's their primary means of income. A company charging $500/hr versus an individual charging the same are two very different things. If you're employed by a company, even if you have a lull in projects, you're still gonna get paid. If you're a freelancer and you only get 8 months worth of work out of the year, you better charge enough to compensate for the rest.

    Also, people are typically coming to a freelancer because they need something special or need it fast. Money talks.

    If people who have purchased from you previously can't tell the difference between your expensive work, and the work they just got done off of Fiverr or Mturk, then it could be it isn't really worth the extra pay. If I was to purchase a logo for a website I don't really intend on doing much with, I wouldn't pay $100 or something high. I would use a service that would allow me to purchase something dirt cheap because it has no real value to me. The person on Fiverr didn't take work away from you, I wasn't going to use you in the first place.
