The truth is that almost nothing short of a bomb shelter will protect you when the bomb goes off, the entire campaign was more a method to reassure people and stop them from having panic attacks in the street because trying to avoid damage from the bomb is futile. Would you rather know there's nothing you can do to protect yourself, or engage in futile maneuvers that make you look silly?

Yeah, the whole thing is a sham, just like hiding under your desk for a collapsing building due to a tornado or earthquake. If the building goes bye bye, your desk most likely won't save you.

 

It does help for glass though.

 

Which is why you leave the desk and the classroom with the windows and head into the hallway or other interior room.

 

pretty much, for years you could get pills that were supposed to protect you from radiation if the plant leaked (forget what they were) but they were only available if you were inside the 10-mile radius. Now mind you I could see the siren that marked that boundary from my back yard. Highly doubt the radiation was going to say whoops can't go any further.

 

Moving during an earthquake is normally not suggested. But if you have time to move between quakes that is another story.
