No one besides mturk has any info that can be considered accurate and they don't share.

I passed the test, and got the qual, but now I am studying their website sample elephant calls. Being a great elephant call identifier is a dream I have had for a long long time.

I was just wondering if someone from Mturk said they were denying people based on a surplus of workers or if someone made that up.

I believe that it is just assumed like how we assume that masters is done being handed out because it hasn't been for over a year now.

From my limited experience Amazon doesn't really tell us anything about what's happening with the mturk platform.

What little we know is from a few researchers who included tenure (how long respondents had been using MTurk) in their surveys. This is a topic of the studies I posted about in posts #15, 19, and 20 here: http://www.mturkgrind.com/threads/demographics-of-mechanical-turk.26341/

    #15:
    Time Using System:
    Just started: 13%
    <1 month: 23%
    1-6 months: 34%
    6-12 months: 15%
    1-2 years: 13%
    2+ years: 3%

    #19:
MTurk Tenure (calculated by me from the researcher's Excel file):
    Code:
    	             India US Overall
    	(blank) 0.3% 0.6% 0.5%
    	 0-3 months 55.6% 39.1% 46.0%
    	 3-6 months 19.1% 16.7% 17.7%
    	6-12 months 14.7% 19.0% 17.2%
    	 1-2 years 8.2% 18.4% 14.1%
    	 2-4 years 2.1% 6.2% 4.5%
    #20:
Calculated by me from the researcher's Excel file (same file as post #19), but this time just for the top 10% most active turkers (submitting 500+ HITs per week... yes, that's all it took to be in the top 10%, most forum participants have no idea of the vast amount of turkers who barely turk even when not counting those who are entirely inactive):
MTurk Tenure for Workers Performing 500+ HITs per week
    0-3 months: 29, 29.9%
    3-6 months: 21, 21.6%
    6-12 months: 14, 14.4%
    1-2 years: 23, 23.7%
    2-4 years: 10, 10.3%

Likely about 90% of all MTurk worker accounts ever registered are entirely inactive. (Making that 'top 10%' only 1% of all worker accounts.)

That's pretty interesting. I've been turking less than a year so I wasn't aware of this type of stuff. I've always been curious as to what stats are actually considered impressive, such as total $ earned, total HITs completed, number of rejections, etc. It seems that people manage to hit some criteria that Amazon workers take note of and contact them, or something? Like people get Christmas cards and get invited to provide feedback on their projects (worker.mturk).

The aura around this platform is really bizarre how it all works with virtually zero communication from Amazon. Not to mention the desperation and lies from the workers... It creates something unique, to say the least. :p
