I don't bother with rips that much anyway. Radarr & Sonarr are my best friend. Most things I watch are with Plex on my android and Chromecast to the 1080p LED TV. I have Plexpass so I sync a lot to my phone.

I know my encoding friends use 10 ish filters or sometimes more when encoding. The tools are slowly being updated to h.265 but it is slow because the quality isn't actually better with h.265 so not many people are bothering.

The quality for h.265 isn't better, it's slower to encode, but the file sizes tend to be smaller. So not many people are bothering with it, when you can get a 8 TB hard drives out there for $150 or better now.

 

The problem I am having is that they keep encoding in AAC 5.1 and only like 1 or 2 really expensive surround sound receivers by panasonic actually support this. So when it is played by your average surround sound the volume levels just go all wonky
