K so Im selling something and someone wants to mail me cash. Im sure its a scam but Im curious which scam? lol He says he'll mail cash and then I can send the item once I have the cash. Is he just going to send me junk mail lol

 

Who knows; I've never followed through even for fun on one of those. Typically the scam is "I'll overpay on your item by Western Union money order if you ship it to me because I'm overseas/on the moon/orbiting Saturn" or some non-sense.

 

I can't think of a way to scam with cash.

 

I mean, I guess there's the potential that he says he sent the cash and you never received it for some reason, and then he starts harassing you about not sending the item he paid for. There's no way to prove he actually sent money. Not actually a scam, but if he has your address that could be kind of annoying.

Depending on what the item is, I probably would just tell him no. If it's like some super unique and uncommon item I could understand buying that online and sending cash, but if it's something he can find near him and actually meet someone with cash, why isn't he doing that?

 

It's pretty rare and pricy and a good price, so I can see really wanting it. I guess he could send by cash and make sure I sign. Maybe I should entertain it. Going to inquire further. Just seems too easy almost

 

We are moving into the new house Wednesday-Friday and the internet guy won't be there until next Monday.

 

Just tell him to get a money order. He can use the cash to pay for the money order. Should be able to get one at his local post office.

Depending on the value of the item, counterfeiting sounds plausible though unlikely.

 

Make sure that you have a good resource for spotting fake cash. They can get pretty close on first inspection if you don't look for the security features.
