I would suggest building a PC as well. My husband and I built both of ours with just the help of reddit and youtube, and a 3rd and 4th for friends since then. It really isnt all that hard. Plus its fun getting to see how everything comes together and works. There's a since of pride as well knowing you're able to do something like that. And of course gaming if you're into that sort of thing. Parts can be traded out to upgrade piece by piece later, instead of just buying everything all at once again.

The show follows the true route of VN with some stuff mixed in. The VN however goes into it a lot deeper and shows other routes. It is really good VN.
