    Exchange it seems to work fine. IMAP, things vanish, they move out of the Inbox, it's an organizational nightmare. Or was in 2013. I think 2016 shored up the IMAP support a little bit.

    My colleagues put folders in folders and have 100s of client-specific folders. I just organize everything by month. You're going to use the search function anyway, what's the point of putting one email for one client in it's own folder?

    True. I have subfolders for different departments and then sometimes subfolders for specific people in those departments. Depends really. The people I communicate with the most get their own folder.

    My "clients" are other departments. :emoji_rage:

    The problem is the way the server and your local client are setup. The folders you setup locally are often not duplicated on the IMAP server so all mail you put in those folders is downloaded from the server and disappears as if you had deleted it as far as the server is concerned. If you want to setup folders on an IMAP server without issues then create them on the servers web client and IT will put them locally.
