The only flaw in your argument here is that it's not mutually exclusive. Movies can be entertainment. And they can be art. One or the other, or both at the same time. You can watch The Shining and just enjoy it for what it is, or you can watch it frame by frame and relate it to the Holocaust. You don't have to do anything with a movie if you don't want to.

I know you said your ex was super into Kubrick, so maybe because of that experience you have it in your head that to enjoy Kubrick movies you have to study his brain under a microscope? But there's always the option that you can forget that it's a Kubrick movie and just watch it as a movie. Like i said, I was waaaay too young when I watched it for the first 100,000 times in my life and Kubrick could have been my next door neighbor and I wouldn't have any idea what it meant, let alone did I know enough to scrutinize every placement of every chair in the movie. I knew it was a badass movie. Then I knew it was a book, and it was a badass book. Then I knew there was a mini-series, and it was a badass mini-series. I'm still not huge on most of the *~tin foil hat meanings*~, but I can appreciate it because Kubrick has a crazy good vision, he makes insanely good movies, and because that's all art is - interpretive from creation to reception. If he hears a toddler sing "Old McDonald Had a Farm" and wants to make a movie about how the nursery rhyme symbolizes reptilians coming from Nibiru, cool, it'll still be a beautifully directed movie, and you can sing B-I-N-G-O along with it without believing in reptilians. What am I even talking about anymore, I need more coffee.

You're totally allowed to remove all the qualifiers of who did what and why when and how, you can still just enjoy it for what it is. It can be Stanely Kubrick's Artistic Interpretation of Stephen King's novel The Shining. hell, I couldn't survive as a horror fan or movie fan in general if I didn't accept that things are going to be made/remade/interpreted in ways that I wouldn't have personally enjoyed if I pick it apart piece by piece, but I can respect because it's going to be more entertainment and that's all I need it to be, can I please get more coffee please.

My problem is that it's 3 cats and 2 big dogs. It was a stressful move just going between SC and GA and I had to use Matt's mom's van to fit everyone. And in this scenario, I would be driving alone. But, thanks for the ideas! I can def jigger up a little space for the cats in my dog kennel so they at least have a litter box, but honestly, driving alone with 5 pets just seems insane. It's like a 32 hour drive, and I just don't even know how to do that alone with a bunch of critters to boot.

Those carriers look so nice! I was planning on doing a dog carrier anyways, instead of 2 separate cat carriers, because these cats have been together since they were 12 weeks and are in love. Thanks so much for the advice.
