I mean, if you're a passenger in a jet you're still flying from one location to the other. It's semantics for sure, but I think the pig still qualifies as flying through the air.

If you catch a flight somewhere, wouldn't you say, " I flew to insert place here ....and boy, my arms are tired!"

There's a difference between piloting a plane and flying in one. You can go flying without touching the controls.

But not in relation to how the saying "pigs fly" is perceived. In that instance, it's clear the use of "fly" means the pig, itself, is physically in control of flying through the air. So, the only way for that to fit the definition of a pig flying on a plane is if it were behind the controls. At least in my view. But you're right, it's just semantics. I think both of us are right, it's just how we view the phrasing.

What's funny is, this is basically the heated debate we had about pigs flying in my house. It got intense, harsh words were spoken, I'm sure our neighbors wondered what was happening.
