Some nice workstations in that thread. My 21 will turn vertical and I have a spare 19 widescreen. Right now I'm using an older Samsung i5 laptop with a broken hinge stuck at a 45 degree angle (will break in half if I move it much) and a ruptured battery I had to remove. The laptop sits on the bottom of an end table next to the end of the couch with the 21 on top. Linux Mint to improve the performance of the old beast. New computer is coming this November but I'm not sure what yet.

 

I'm pretty comp illiterate but can I get one for 250 with 16 gigs of ram or more you think? I was looking into them last week a little bit. Also read that some laptops have expandable storage and harddrives. Prob something I maybe interested in

 

You don't need 16gb of ram for mturk.

 

You are always going to get more bang for your buck with a desktop compared to a laptop.

A laptop doesn't really have as much processing power as a good solid desktop and if you somehow really need that 16gb of RAM, you can just buy some more.

 

It cost me less to add another 8gb of RAM to this laptop than it was to buy the model that already had 16. It's probably overkill and I really wanted more like 12, but I figured, fuck it- Let's do this.

 

I figured as much but wanted more than i needed to last me longer. ill have to look into them, maybe I can get a laptop with expandable capabilities for cheap and upgrade later. right now I have 4 gigs of ram and I have to reboot several times a day

My new redneck laptop

 

laptops are rarely upgradable.

 

My thing is though I'm planning on packing up and moving to california to live homeless out of my car and was wanting something I will be able to travel with and work from.

 

I doubt it's your 4GB of RAM that is the reason for your multiple reboots, my friend.

why da heck is that??? They sell shells and computer components to build your own desktop but dont do the same for laptops?

 

I like the opportunity of franchise.

 

Do people actually buy laptops for upgrading anything other than drives and RAM? I buy then for portability and using them while on the couch.
