It's a fair statement. If you aren't going to upgrade being able to doesn't really matter lol. In my own experience the GPU is almost always the first thing to either go out completely or become outdated the fastest.

Oh, I totally agree. That's the main reason I'm thinking of another. I think I've been through maybe 5 laptops at work and my Macbook is still kicking. I really want an upgrade to be able to take advantage of the new OS. I mean the CPU gets a little bogged down when I'm running HF, OW, PC, live update on forum, and watching a csat or something.

I had like, 1 gb on the craptop and could not add anymore (it was at 256k when I started using it), it was horrifying and I wanted to die. I couldn't do jack shit without it having a stroke.

In general yes, but also varies wildly based on your operating system. 4gb isn't optimal but 16 would be overkill. 8 or more is a good safe zone for most people.

On a linux box you could likely run most people's setups on like 2GB of ram.

Macbooks are freaking tanks when it comes to lifespan. Excluding user error like splashing coffee all over it etc., pretty much everyone I know that's had one manages to keep it around and working fine for at least 6+ years.

True, but linux isn't for everyone lol. I mean if you enjoy spending two hours and writing your drivers to get one game to work it could be for you! :p

I was just making the point that 4gigs of ram is plenty lol but you don't need to do anything fancy with mainstream distros like ubuntu

Late to the party but don't care:

Hubby did many upgrades to my laptop. If I tried to buy a similar setup from HP right now, they're charging more than what I paid initially plus all the upgrades. So eff it.

    *cuddles my laptop*

I wish they'd make a more fully featured desktop version of chromium. I'd dual boot into that for turking. Hackintosh for video and photo editing, windows for gaming, and chromium for turking.

A huge amount of laptops have soldered on ram and not even your laptop is able to be truely upgraded. That is right YOU are the liar.

You can't upgrade the GPU or the CPU on it.

Even laptops that can get the ram upgraded often have a low limit on how far that can be upgraded. (and laptop ram is more expensive as well)
