Apparently the steroids have made him like Mark McGwire in the 90s, we should start looking out for home runs next.

I think @hvnnvr might have been right when he said Bearnie might think it's a fun game we are playing. It's like camping, or spring break, eventually he will Grinch out and want to go home, except by then I'll be across the country.

He hasn't even had to worry about food still, cause he's stealing food out of 3 different yards with indoor/outdoor cats. I mean, no one could ever accuse Bearnie of being stupid, he's annoyingly tricky. One of the cat/dog owners in town flagged us down, asked to see a picture of Bearnie and says, "Oh damn! I didn't realize that was him! He's been eating my cat food for a week!"

 

I'm glad you have seen him @Hummingbirdee ! Hopefully he gets tired of the game he is playing and comes home soon. He reminds me of this crazy ass dog that people in my area spent weeks tracking down. He ran away from his owner right after she adopted him. Neighbors organized a complex strategy to catch him and about two or three weeks later they got him. They give him back to the owner and the next freaking night he escapes again! An animal rescue lady worked day and night and finally caught him. It was wild.

If he has other food sources catching him is going to be more interesting. I still like my idea however now arming the entire neighborhood. Maybe asking the neighbors when they feed and taking the time to be near when they feed? If Bearnie is eating from the neighbors he has a ready supply of food and maybe the litterbox is a way to draw him back?

Well, at least we figured out his path. He was in Mark's back yard and apparently has been a good bit. He has tiny dogs but they have an electric fence so they don't get in the very back, where Bearnie has been hiding out. He then crossed over from Mark's house to Moe's shop when we were poking around, and they saw what they thought was him and whistled at us as we were walking in front of Mark's house. I saw him under a lawnmower and he bolted over to the rednecks next to our house, back to the porch I've seen him on twice before, bolted back to Moe's, and then the farm next to that.

So, he's keeping to the same area, and he seemed to be confident in where he was running. Hopefully we can get him in one of the traps or lock him in one of the sheds or something eventually. He is the only cat in town with a collar and the little metal loop catches the light super well.

He's literally wandering around in a small area circling our house, without ever going to our house. He's being a real dick right now.

 

Seems like he is doing good then if he is staying around your house. Apparently the 'newness' of the outdoors has not wore off and he may be sowing his wild oats before leaving town. Stock up on sardines and pâté and live trap the hell out of the neighbors houses.

 

We have 3 live traps out and Moe/Mark have both moved their cat food into their sheds so if they see him they can hopefully close the door on his ass. If we weren't moving in a couple weeks, I'd be much less worried. We were just talking about how out of our 3 cats, Bearnie is the only one we think could hack it outdoors for long, and the little bugger didn't even have a scratch on him. 90% of the feral and outdoor cats we've seen have been bloodied up and Bearnie is just having himself a fun little camping trip. Outside of the times he's sickly, he's hunting lizards and finding creative places to hide, and occasionally whooping Porgy's ass for stealing his toys- at least now I know for sure he's taking care of himself well enough right now. He will get sick and need his inhaler or something again eventually, which makes me uneasy. I'm terrified we won't be able to get him back but at least I feel better about his ability to survive for the time being.
