I've seen what you've posted about SD, and actually watched the documentary you mentioned ages ago. (Rather, you mentioned the gangbangers and I found the documentary on youtube about them? One of the two.)

My experience here is different; I like it. I'm not interested in a social life, or friends or anything, and people seem to leave me alone. It helps that I look like an ogre who lost his bridge, but even so, when I go for walks at 2am, I feel perfectly safe, despite living in a city.

I miss Colorado, but considering it was "find somewhere cheap enough to live" vs that whole bridge thing, I've got to say, I like SD. Comparing where I live to, say, Cañon City, it's night and day; the former is like this graffiti, trash shit-hole, and here, ... they mow the grass along the sidewalks.

I'm also sort of thrilled to live in a place that actually has four seasons again, vs May, June, July and Winter.

Granted, just the other day, I had a conversation with a soon to be an actual nurse who thought vaccinations were a government conspiracy and an act of Satan, but, I mean, her heart was in the right place, and I'm sure she didn't pass that perspective on to her seven kids...
