So we toyed with the idea of Nothing Else Matters for our first dance. We ended up with a Green Day song, but we did a cool thing at our wedding called an anniversary dance. All couples started dancing and then you were asked to leave if you were married less than a day (which was a joke), less than 1 year, ect until we were down to the newest couple and the longest married couple. And while it started with unchained melody so people would get on the dance floor, he quickly changed it to nothing else matters

I did this for a while when I had my son 6 years ago but ended up getting court ordered to pay a ridiculous amount when I was never served with the papers to go to court and missed the hearing. I owed A LOT more that time though. Like in the 10's of thousands.

 

it was my "song" with my first serious boyfriend as a teenager. it's an awesome song, but i can't help but relate it to two 14-ish year olds thinking they knew what love meant.

 

Yeah, I live in Playa. I'm back in the states right now because of the 180-day tourist visa thing but I'm going back on the 1st of October. I'll probably stay through the winter there again but then move back to Florida after that.

wait what? That sounds SO illegal. Just make sure you keep open communications with the hospital, and for the love of god, never miss a payment. Hopefully, most of your debt is with the hospital/drs directly and not put on your credit card or something like that, this trick only works on medical debt with the original institutions.

Also, once a month you can call the hospital and ask if any "bed funds" were available. Or something like that, usually it's donations set aside to help those who are uninsured/underinsured. They go quick, but keep checking, they can become available any time someone dies and leaves or donation or something like that.

 

Stories like this make me glad to live where I do Don't know if it has anything to do with them being a teaching hospital but when I had my accident Penn State Medical Center really worked with me. Ended up forgiving a huge part of my bill and it was in the hundred's of thoussands

 

Thankfully for me, my first serious boyfriend as a teenager ended up becoming my husband

No, it was a good batch, just kind of annoying.

 

I was on a ventilator for 6 days when I was 19 without insurance. And then stuck in the hospital for about 10 months altogether. I'm still paying for that incident.

here's the worst part. I learned this on Adam Ruins Everything the other day. The hospitals inflate their prices because the insurance company demands a discount for working with them, so they inflate the prices and then cut deals with the insurance companies so they still pay full price but can tell their bosses they got 40% off. But then when some poor soul shows up without insurance, they get charged the fake prices!!!

Ridiculously unfair and the stupidest thing I've heard in a long time. Penn State probably just ended up charging you what it actually cost them and not the inflated insurance company price

 

You can call and negotiate it down, that's what I had to do with every one of my medical bills when I was in college.

 

We've already started to plan on retiring in Mexico, Costa Rica, Belize... somewhere warm and tropical and out of this insane country.
