    after I told my in-laws I was going to convert to Judaism, a few weeks later I used the phrase "knock on wood" and I was told by my MIL that it's a Christian thing and Jews don't say it. I'm sure we won't know the truth until we invent time travel

    It's part of why the spread of Christianity was so successful. A lot of old local gods also got turned into saints and such. Also, the whole deal with Easter is death and rebirth, which symbolizes spring as a whole. You can't really say things like that come from any one particular religion because any civilization with a culture that revolves around agriculture will celebrate the season of rebirth.
