10/18 - Woke Wednesday!

I was a crazy cat lady for awhile in my old apartment complex because they were catching all the feral kittens to have them put down and I was horrified. I did catch and release with all the lady cats I could catch who were too feral to be rehomed and then took in every kitten I could catch. I had to start a gofundme to raise the money to feed those suckers and get them vaccinated but I rehomed a couple dozen kittens! And mind you, at the time I'm living in a one bedroom apartment with 2 big dogs, LOL. I fostered one dog because she was a nearly extinct breed (what's basically an American Dingo, often called a Carolina Dog) and she was slated to be put down because it was a kill shelter and Matt adopted his dog because he was supposed to be put down that day and he couldn't say no to his big ol' eyes. And I flew Skeeter home with me on a friend's plane, because I refused to leave him behind after I saw him and Matt and I fly a 2 seater.

The amount of times Matt will come home and realize that there is a dog or cat who is not one of ours, it's a lot of times.

"We had 2 dogs when I left last week for my trip, right?"
Yup
"Why do we have 3 dogs now?"
He was running in the street and seemed really hungry!
"... ok. He's not living with us forever now, is he?"
No no, the nice lady at the T.J Maxx was looking for a dog and we can't find this guys owners so sh'e's going to adopt him!

That's so awesome. I love hearing about other animal lovers. That's pretty much how it is for us. All in all, there were about 8 strays. They all get cuddled and played with, fed, brushed, cleaned if needed, and have warm places to sleep. In winter when it's extremely cold, they all go into the office (it's two levels and is definitely big enough for all of them) without exception. Same during extremely hot days in summer. The dynamic is slightly different, but they all know that this is very much their home now. I wish so many more places did catch and release, because within a couple of years, it dramatically reduces the amount of strays in a very visible way.

We too have a lynx point. She's extremely vocal and her eyes match Yuki's, even the white eyeliner.

 

I don't get people who are mean to animals or who just disregard them. It breaks my heart. You're fucking awesome, too!

I live WAY out in the country, and I can't figure out where all the cats are. I know several people with some on their farms, and they aren't fixed, and they're purely "barn cats" but really, you'd think surrounded by corn, soy, and wheat fields (and the associated little vermin) they'd be everywhere. I truly expected to have to adopt plenty of kitties when we moved out here, but really, Parker's been the only one. We see a few, but we know they're outdoor/indoor cats for people a few blocks away. That's it. I'd totally love some catch and release babies up here!

My friend once left her parrot with me while she was out of the country, I may have accidentally taught it a couple bad words.

 

In spite of my language, none of my birds have been potty mouths. No idea why not.

 

Whenever the parrot or my dog was trying to snipe food or my dog was barking super loud for no reason, I would tell them to frick off, without thinking about it much. One day my dog barked and the parrot starting chanting, "FRICK OFF FRICK OFF FRICK OOFFFFF!"

I mean, the dog did shut up, so, semi win?
