Maggots are actually kinda cool bugs. Yes they're gross and they eat flesh, but they eat ROTTING flesh and can help w/ the healing process.....if you don't miss one and it dies and then starts rotting away inside the patient.....(sorry, is this too graphic for 7am?)

 

Don't worry, according to the FDA we have an allowable amount of maggots in our food anyways.

Maggots give me the heebie jeebies big time but I'm all about leeches, I think it's awesome when they use those little suckers for blood thinning in the hospital. Go little guy go!

I like LOOKING at maggots, but removing them is a giant PITA.
Abscesses are super fun too
Leeches are fucking awesome though. They also use them to make sure reattached limbs (usually fingers and toes) get bloodflow working properly

Using them for blood clots and circulation issues and such is a world of difference than the old timey blood letting you're probably imagining in that it's hella safe and non-sketch now haha. Sometimes you don't want to pump a patient full of blood thinners for health reasons or they aren't responding well and you don't want to lose a finger. Their saliva is a badass blood thinner.
