Does Amazon/mturk report our earnings to the IRS?

Edit: Should say, are they relying on us to 'self report', or are they also submitting stats of our earnings to the IRS?

You self report. In terms of Amazon, it's unlikely they report your specific earnings under $20k for the year. Individual requesters may report your earnings individually. Before there were changes to how the IRS required Paypal and Amazon to report earnings, you would get an individual 1099 in the mail from each requester you made $600 or more with in any given year. Now it's mostly self reporting, use the dashboard and scripts to get the info you need. But in particular, if you made $600 on MTurk, you should report it to avoid problems.

I was trying to summon that guy so he could come in and passively aggressive link his thread! (actually semi serious since I've seen him do that dozens of times)

Nah I guess I have a bigger question, which is that the IRS seems to know that some people are under reporting their income. I know someone on Mturk who has told me he hasn't filed taxes in four years, etc. Yet if that information is being sent to the IRS, it would seem the IRS would have information that this guy is not reporting his income as not to pay taxes on it

Maybe Mturk or Amazon are not sending the forms to the IRS? I guess I'm asking because a different online gig I do, they sent me a digital copy of a 1099 showing me my yearly earnings, and it looks like they send a similar form to the IRS. So if that says I have yearly earnings of 10k, I report I had earnings of 7k, the IRS would have that data

I'm just kind of surprised, figured there was some self reporting system going on with this / the other gig I do, but I'm now wondering if Amazon is sending all of our earning figures in
