Have you had it tested to check if it actually is the battery and not the alternator or something else? Most car shops will test it for free

Cuz of where it is (2012 dodge avenge has it tucked away almost hidden) Autozone, and Advance auto parts readers can't get into it to read anyway but the alternator has read as fine

 

Some junk yards also have used batteries for cheap, something to get you through for a bit.
Or you can buy a battery from WalMart or someplace and have it put in, but at a dealership, it may not make much of a difference

 

Also take a deep breath. I would recommend chocolate but it is not the solution for everyone (just me). Will pray for her and ditto on Christurks statement.

You can go to o'reilly's or autozone the majority of them will test your battery or alternator for free just give your local stores a call and see and ask about the requirements the may want you to bring in just the battery or just the alternator.

also what are some symptoms that you are having that you believe one of those to options to be your problem?

Yea, this was poor design on their part. One of those "if we do this then they won't have any other choice but to bring it to us to fix"

 

It's really not that bad once you get the tire off. It can be done yourself, fairly easily, for a lot cheaper than a dealership will do it.

Battery is tucked away so can't be read by their machines (tried before)... battery light came on, car stopped accelerating she said then she pulled over and now waiting on a tow. Battery is the original so prob time anyway

now tow compnay sayin they won't dispatch a tow truck unless it doesn't start with a jump... so if it starts and has issues again on way home and things get worse its ok by them... omg omg omg i am gonna have a frickin heart attack

 

Did any other lights come on? did the radio get quieter or just turn off?

Also if she was driving and had this happened there is pretty much no reason or way it could be the battery you can drive around with a completely bad battery and have no trouble till you turned the vehicle off. The alternator runs at around 13.5-14.6 volts and your car only needs around 12 volts. The alternator supports the car while trickle charging the battery from the power it lost from starting the car or you sitting there listening to the radio in acc mode.

the best way to test an alternator would be to get a multi meter and put the black "grnd" on the negative side of the battery and put the red "pwr" on the back of the alternator if you are getting less then 13.5 change it even if it is 13.4 its considered undercharging if you are getting over 14.6 volts it is over charging and will ruin other things although overcharging does not seem to be your issue.

 

It's seriously not bad. Even if it takes you 4 hours (which is about 4-5x as long as it took me), you're looking at paying around $80 versus the hundreds a dealership will cost. The dealership is going to be a ~$300 convenience premium.

If it died while she was driving though, it's probably not your battery. Since the alternator provides a charge to the battery while the car is running, you can usually go... aaaand @AbnormalSpring beat me to this lol

 

I don't frickin know what else happened. And I have zero way to test anything
