My mom passed after years of rheumatoid arthritis and then cancer, which she of course didn't tell me about. She went from a fiesty, vivacious woman, sometimes too much, to a wasted husk of a woman who couldn't clean her house properly or bake a pie for Thanksgiving. Everybody knew she had cancer but me until the end. Now I have guilt forever based on all the signs that showed up. WTF mom? smh.

She was probably trying to save you the pain of knowing in her mind. I stopped telling most and then all people/family about being in the hospital for serious stuff when I was 20, cause worrying everyone was exhausting. I ended up spending a lot of time in the ccu alone, but I felt like I was doing the right thing. Illness makes people short sighted about some things I think; sometimes it feels like it's easier if you were never sick, so if you lie about it, then nobody has to feel sad/bothered/put upon.

I'm sorry you feel guilty, I don't think your mother would want you to if that helps at all, and I'm sorry for your loss.

Thank you. Yes, everything you say is right. She didn't like drugs and had to be on heavy dope toward the end. It's really only waking up, but I shake my head more than feel terrible. This was not a decision made with a clear mind.
