If you're laptop is old enough that it started with 2gb, I think you'd be better off upgrading to a new laptop rather than buying more RAM.

 

I have 4g of ram and a 500g hardrive- but each tab I open in FF now uses 200,000+ k and it used to just be like 350,000 for however many tabs I had open- never had a problem until they broke it up into different processes, like Chrome, each time I open a tab.
