They didn't actually make you agree to confidentiality?

I don't know, because I didn't do any of their HITs.

i don't know, CT said she broke confidentiality, he didn't do any of the HITs... im saying maybe she didn't break anything, and the fault should be placed on the company that doesn't seem to value employees' privacy.

I treat every job on here with a pretty strict personal NDA, whether or not it has it. I share with coworkers I trust who I know operate under the same principles likethattimeisentchristhetranscriptionfileofalargecompanysbusinessmeetingpitchingasuperbowlcommercialandfiveyearplan.

I think it's common sense? And professional? But then again, those words aren't exactly synonymous with many workers.

All I know is that it would be sweet, hilarious irony if the article itself was ghostwritten by a Turker.

The confidentiality is inherit in the relationship between requester/worker. You shouldn't need an NDA for an expectation that if something is wrong Twitter is not going to be the place a worker goes to blast you on. How many jobs have you had where you see something wrong and the first thing you do is report your company to XYZ regulation authority? Nevermind what actually happened here, which is just to throw the information into the wild and hope it gets picked up for your own PR sake.

Of course pulling the work is PR, but its not a PR move I blame them for because they weren't even given the opportunity to correct the issue. They literally woke up to find their left arm on fire and the quickest way to put out the flames is to just cut it off.

The only thing this worker accomplished is having them move the work to another platform, because frankly they still need humans to read receipts their AI cannot, so some silly Uber receipts (..that, lol, give me a fucking break on that note) are still going to be looked at by someone who has zero interest in the data

The original Tweet, and subsequent articles, have all been illogical fear mongering over stupid stuff to no detriment or burden to any of the authors. Just Expensify and anyone doing their HITs on mTurk. Its bad for the ecosystem we live in.

I have no clue what you mean by protecting employee names?

Yep. mTurk is just a marketplace for advertising work, and a lot of that work is restricted only to selected groups of trustworthy people.

The article made a terrible effort to emphasize this, because being reasonable, quite frankly, doesn't sell ad copy.

They're just concerned about making that little line chart of "views" rise. People will share this virally through social networks if they're misled into thinking that something dramatic and dangerous happened. That's why Mashable is lumped into "fake news" by anyone with a fully-functioning brain. But unfortunately, half of the population has below-average IQ.

Working in advertising makes it readily apparent how many companies scare people intentionally in the name of profit.

Lot's of assumptions; one, that the woman didn't contact them through mturk first, another, that having a person's name and address is always harmless, and last, that an NDA is implied with every HIT we accept if you're "professional" (if reqs were professional they'd make sure to include one).
You're also saying it's bad for the platform, im not so sure, @jessers response made the term 'whistleblower come to mind, and if anything all i can see coming of this is more apparent NDA agreements in HIT.
Not to mention we all have the ability to work on more than one platform, if they go somewhere else, people can follow them. If mturk dies that work will go somewhere else, and the worst part of the whole thing would be making a new account on a different domain. :dunno:
