And some places it's on a volunteer to take that shift instead of a manager making you work it. Though there are some jobs *cough Walmart cough* where they'll make you work it whether you want to or not, and you'd get written up if you call in.

Yep. You only have to work 70 hours a week and live in a box...

Long haul trucker life kind of sucks regardless of who you work for unless you really like that sort of thing. Regional is much nicer, get to sleep in your own bed even though you're probably working overnights.

i could see myself ending up a truck driver in a diff life having driven all the way to wisconsin without using motels before, and im imagining i would'e still discovered mturk, bought a mifi and turked on those raelly long stretches where you can go over 100mph not too riskily

Not turking and going 100 but turking on the stretches where you can go 100 because it's really wide and straight and the horizon is over 100 miles away

As a first responder I feel obligated to advise you against turking and driving. Or do and be prepared for a visit from one of us at some point. Your choice

Still no. You are behind the wheel of an 80,000 lb vehicle. Other drivers are horribly unpredictable. The risk isn't that you burn a souffle, plus using your phone while driving is a big no no. And your cdl is your livlihood.

It's still probably not a good idea to be on a computer while you're driving, even if it's completely empty long stretch of road. A lot of companies are really strict with all that, especially since they can get in a lot of trouble if anything goes wrong, and it just takes a stray state patroller or other cop to bust you tbh. Even if there's no cop, you could still lose control of the vehicle, a very heavy one at that, and get in a horrible accident rather easily.

So why are you legally allowed to talk on the phone hands-free? As longs as it's not illegal, I think I'll do what works for my money but thanks for the concern...
