02/07 - Why Wednesday?

I know the leak it's self isn't anything major, but we want to redo the shower anyway because it's ugly . And I want a glass door because I get the creeps while I'm in the shower when I'm home alone and get towed of peeking around the curtain every two seconds

 

...unless you live near me, where the employees are the dumbest fucking boxes of rocks within a 100 mile radius.

Mmm.. I mean its not just tiling, you're wanting to custom build a shower. Lots of opportunity for that to go very wrong, and if it goes wrong it goes super duper wrong because water == evil.

The thing w/ DIY projects is that they all tend to look great when put up next to the picture of the 30yr old ugly ass blue shower pan on day one.. you never ever see the picture 5 years later if/when shit fails because they did something incorrectly. Especially because it wont be for another 5-10yrs after that for things to really get nightmare level bad lol.

I've DIY'd everything in my house thus far except electrical (and shortly windows). The bathroom teardown was easy as hell. The rebuild was 95% reading exhaustive amounts of information then 5% cursing. If you're just 'yeah, I'm gonna tile b/c other people do!" you're super duper far away from being able to competently do a bathroom redo lol (lu bb js)

Everything I've done the first time has been noticeably worse than if I had paid someone else with 15yrs experience to do it for me. They make a living doing it for a reason, lol. But I could take pics that look awesome on IG/Pinterest and you'd never know.

This has been my experience with the folks who actually come out the store to your home. They're all ex-pros whose business imploded in 2008. Seriously, 3 for 3 the exact same story.

Everyone in the store is a flick of the ear short of being in the special olympics though.

Then in this case start with a plumber if you want a precast unit as a replacement..... look for a GC or just a tile guy if you want a walk in tile shower type of thing (depending on where you live and local law/code will determine if a licensed GC is needed etc etc) And DO NOT just go with some unlicensed dude because cheaper unless highly recommended by people you know and trust. I can't count the number of times out here in SF I'd get called to give a price to fix some hacks shit, and at this point it costs twice as much to do.
