When you live in an area which regularly experiences 50+ MPH winds and populated with lawyers who don't know much about fences, it's probably a good living.

I can't believe they're paying double for a significantly poor product compared to what we had done with our other neighbor. We used steel posts boxed with wood panels so it looks like a wood post fence, but cost half what they are doing and held up through severe gusts.

This contractor isn't sinking the wood posts past a foot and then poured some concrete around the bottom.

Yeah sounds unlicensed or just a cheap prick hacking around corners. If this is a common neighbor I'd raise a fuss. No idea what your local laws are but here it is supposed to be equal responsibility. But that is where the getting paid part became a problem cuz ya know people and they suck and such.

 

They apparently did the same thing to their neighbor on the other side, and said other neighbor is livid. "THEY TOOK THE WHOLE FENCE DOWN?!?"

 

Two panels blew down during a storm with heavy winds on our side, and three panels on the other side. Instead of replacing the damaged panels, they tore down the entire fence of ten panels on both sides and currently in the process of replacing the whole fence with lower quality fence that doesn't even color match the rest of the fencing.

We now have multi-neighbor drama.

But in all seriousness that's ridiculous, I also don't know your local laws but I can't imagine that one neighbor can go gallivanting off and replacing a fence willy nilly and sending you the bill

I got a $3.35 bonus from them yesterday. I don't remember when I did the survey -- maybe a while ago.

 

That must have been for a different survey. This one has a maximum of $1 bonus, per the HIT title and description.

 

If you live in an association they do this often. Usually it comes out of your locally collected fees, but if it is a large storm, they don't have enough funds to cover all of it, so they will bill each person who has had damage exceeding 3 business days. If it is just some guy going around fixing your fence, that is pretty bad ass. If there wasn't your signature on any of that, call it a nice neighbor that hooked you up for free.

 

They can't.

If they sue us or our other neighbor, I offered to buy the other neighbor a box of popcorn and a ride to the courthouse because no judge is going to rule in their favor. This happens so often here that all parties involved have to sign off on an estimate before beginning work. The contractor should know this but then again, they probably do and realized the lawyers were suckers.

 

Actually it's a pretty rural county. There were a LOT of people. I didn't count. I'm thinking 5 panels of 16 each, if I had to guess. And lucky you. I get $25 a day if I'm not called for actual jury (even though I was there until 1pm anyway), and no mileage (I was probably the farthest driving one there, as I live on the very edge of the county - well, I knew one person there, and she lives a block past me. LOL) On the plus side, I got up early enough to drive into the next town over to get Starbucks then make it back in time to park (2 blocks away) and get in. Mmmmm, mocha.
