We would have had ours been an inside cat but he was a stray when we found him and he really liked being outside. We tried for the longest time to get him to use a litterbox inside the house so he could be an inside cat but he hated it and would meow for so long for us to let him out.

no judgement here, Charlie is a mostly indoor kitty because she doesn't leave the back yard. She learned how to use the dog door ages ago, and I was freaking the fuck out about it but she never showed any inclination to leaving the yard and we haven't had issues so...

This house doesn't have a dog door so she goes out when we have the backyard doors open, and are around.

if I came back one day to charlie being gone when I had a dog door I'd feel freaking awful
