People adopt pit bulls because they want to look tough and have a dog that has a "badass" reputation, then don't really take care of said dog and either abandon it or it runs away or just outright abuse it. Then again, there are also those #notallpitbulls type people who adopt a pit bull and don't realize how much dedication it takes to raise a dog from a breed renowned for being both stubborn and strong as a bull.
