I'd disagree completely. I'd say the book has more to do with '80s movies rather than games, and the movie throws plenty of modern references into the mix.

 

I was interested to find out, for some reason I feel like this is going to be another John Carter. Super expensive to make and flop at the theaters, but still be a really good movie.

Judging from the ~12 people in my IMAX showing last night, you might be right, but also people aren't used to Wednesday night premieres so I'm not sure it's a good case study.

I know that they want people to go out and see it, I just haven't seen a good enough campaign to get people interested. I think that they are just hoping that Spielberg and the book entice people enough.
